Improving crude oil flow characteristics by reducing effective viscosity through oscillation technology.
High viscosity crude oil presents significant transportation and processing challenges. The energy required to pump heavy crude through pipelines is substantially higher, and processing at refineries becomes more complex and costly.
In this application, Merus technology was applied to a pipeline transporting heavy crude oil. The oscillation frequencies introduced by the Merus Ring affected the molecular structure of the crude, reducing its effective viscosity.
The result was improved pumpability and reduced energy consumption for transportation. The crude oil reached the processing facility in better condition, requiring less energy-intensive processing.
