Corrosion Rate and SRB in Separation Plant

Reducing corrosion rates and Sulfur Reducing Bacteria counts in a separation plant environment.

Sulfur Reducing Bacteria (SRB) are anaerobic organisms that produce hydrogen sulfide as a metabolic byproduct. This hydrogen sulfide is highly corrosive to carbon steel and is a significant contributor to Microbiologically Induced Corrosion (MIC) in oil and gas facilities.

A separation plant was experiencing elevated corrosion rates associated with high SRB counts in the process water systems. Biocide treatments were providing only temporary relief, and corrosion was progressing faster than acceptable.

Merus Ring installation reduced both the SRB population and the associated corrosion rates. The technology created conditions less favorable for SRB growth while simultaneously reducing the corrosive potential of the process fluids.
