Controlling corrosion in produced water injection systems for enhanced oil recovery operations.
Produced water reinjection is a common practice for reservoir pressure maintenance and enhanced oil recovery. However, the corrosive nature of produced water creates significant integrity challenges for injection pipelines and equipment.
An operator's produced water injection system was experiencing accelerated corrosion, leading to frequent repairs and system downtime. Corrosion inhibitor dosing was at maximum recommended levels but failing to control the problem adequately.
Merus Rings installed on the injection water system reduced the corrosive potential of the produced water. Corrosion monitoring showed a sustained reduction in corrosion rates, allowing the operator to reduce corrosion inhibitor dosing while maintaining acceptable pipeline integrity.
