Breaking crude oil emulsions to improve separation efficiency and product quality.
Crude oil emulsions form when oil and water are mixed under pressure and agitation during production. These emulsions are stabilized by natural surfactants present in the crude, making separation difficult and costly.
A production facility was dealing with persistent tight emulsions that resisted conventional separation. High doses of chemical demulsifiers were required, adding to operating costs and creating water treatment complications.
Merus Ring installation on the production flow lines destabilized the emulsions before they reached the separation equipment. The weakened emulsions separated more readily, allowing for reduced chemical demulsifier dosing while achieving cleaner separation.
