Reducing pipeline pigging frequency and Pour Point Depressant chemical usage through Merus technology.
Pipeline pigging is a necessary but expensive operation that interrupts normal flow and requires specialized equipment and personnel. Pour Point Depressants (PPD) are chemicals injected to keep crude oil flowing at lower temperatures.
A pipeline operator was spending significantly on both regular pigging operations and continuous PPD injection. The combination of wax and sludge buildup required frequent pigging runs, while PPD was needed to maintain flow during colder periods.
After Merus Ring installation, the pipeline showed reduced wax and sludge accumulation, allowing pigging frequency to be decreased. Additionally, the improved flow characteristics reduced the required PPD injection rates.
